چکیده

Intraoperative optical imaging of exposed organs in visible, nearinfrared, and infrared (IR) wavelengths in the body has the potential to be useful for real-time assessment of organ viability and image guidance during surgical intervention. However, the motion of the internal organs presents significant challenges for fast analysis of recorded 2D video sequences. The movement observed during surgery, due to respiration, cardiac motion, blood flow, and mechanical shift accompanying the surgical intervention, causes organ reflection in the image sequence, making optical measurements for further analysis challenging. Correcting alignment is difficult in that the motion is not uniform over the image. This paper describes a Canny edge-based method for segmentation of the specific organ or region under study, along with a momentbased registration method for the segmented region. Experimental results are provided for a set of intraoperative IR image sequences.

Background and Objectives: Identification of surgical instruments in laparoscopic video images has several biomedical applications. While several methods have been proposed for accurate detection of surgical instruments, the accuracy of these methods is still challenged high complexity of the laparoscopic video images. This paper introduces a Surgical Instrument Detection Framework (SIDF) for a...

Traffic Scene Analysis using Hierarchical Sparse Topical Coding

Analyzing motion patterns in traffic videos can be exploited directly to generate high-level descriptions of the video contents. Such descriptions may further be employed in different traffic applications such as traffic phase detection and abnormal event detection. One of the most recent and successful unsupervised methods for complex traffic scene analysis is based on topic models. In this pa...

Application of Automatic Image Registration in a Segmentation Framework of Pelvic CT Images

In radiation treatment (RT) planning, clinicians must trace the outline of a few critical structures on a large number of images. Using automated image segmentation could save tremendous time and effort. Segmentation of the organs near the pubic bone (prostate and bladder) is an important and challenging task: Some of the neighboring organs have similar density values in the CT images and the b...

Improving Histogram-Based Image Registration in Video Sequences through Warping

This paper presents two computationally efficient dynamic-time warping algorithms for image registration in video sequence through histogram based image segmentation. The key idea is to warp the histogram in an input frame to create an approximation of a reference frame. Any histogram based thresholding method can then be applied to create consistent regions in both the input and the approximat...
